Show 100: Real Men Do What?

Here we are! Show #100! Seems like just yesterday we were doing #1 or even #10. It’s been a long road we’ve traveled together and we’re looking forward to several hundred more.

For our 100th show, we have a very special guest. He started out as just a “superfan” for The Less Desirables. In fact, TLD calls him “Superfan Damien.” He’s Mr. Damien Paris and he’s also a big fan of our show (at least he acts like it). He sits in while we talk about our latest topic. A few weeks back a new billboard went up on Business 40 in Kernersville and it has set some folks off. The billboard reads: “Real Men Provide. Real Women Appreciate It.” Rumors abound about who it was that put it up, what their intention was. Some say we’re heading back to the 50s with that or there’s new thoughts that it was a group of fathers that pay child support but their exes or the mothers of the children don’t allow the men to see their kids. We haven’t heard for sure what the deal is, but upon that first day we heard about it, we had to discuss it. It now reads another jab at people who are protesting or complaining about it. We don’t harp on that sign per se, but we discuss the concept of what we perceived it to be in our everyday lives. Damien chimes in a good bit, too. We like that.

The show was recorded in the new Test Pattern Studios. Test Pattern is located at 701 N Trade Street in good ol’ WSNC. Check out the Test Pattern page for more on their happenings.

The Beer Dads’ beer of the week is Golden Ale by Triangle Brewing (where TLD first met Damien).

Show 99: Class Not Ass

Things don’t always go our way. We are sometimes indifferent, but sometimes really, really perturbed. And, that’s fine. We’re allowed. But, it’s how we react when those things don’t go our way, or heck, the way we act when things do go our way, that defines us. So, do we show class? Or are we just an ass? The choice is yours. The Dads talk about this very thing this episode.

The show was recorded in the new Test Pattern Studios. Test Pattern is located at 701 N Trade Street in good ol’ WSNC. Check out the Test Pattern page for more on their happenings.

Show 98: Life Changing Event

We’ve talked about this before, but we revisit it after some real-life updates. While we talk about many life-changing things, we talk about deaths of loved ones probably more than anything else, in this episode. We’re just gonna leave it at that.

Conceptual road sign indicating an upcoming life changing event ahead – with clipping path

Show 97: Tackling the Sportsball

The Super Bowl just ended. A brutal year in a brutal sport that left some with bad injuries. Some to the legs, arms and ribs. Others, to the brain. Football is a dangerous and gruesome sport; yet we love it. The Beer Dads are no exception. But, what happens when YOUR kid wants to play it? Do you let them? Do you discourage them? Do you watch over them like a hawk? Or do you let them decide for themselves? Do you risk them getting injured or worse? That’s what we “tackle” this week.

The show was recorded in the new Test Pattern Studios. Test Pattern is located at 701 N Trade Street in good ol’ WSNC. Check out the Test Pattern page for more on their happenings.

Show 96: 50 on the Road

We only turn 50 once and the second of us did this month, Beer Dad Paul. The Beer Dads along with our Pilots and some of our past guests (and great friends) decided to do a beer crawl to celebrate that milestone. We visited Juggheads, a favorite of Beer Dad Paul, Small Batch Beer Company (where this whole podcast was hatched), Finnigan’s Wake (the Official Emerald Isle of The Less Desirables), the brand new Wise Man Brewing and finished off the night with our presenting sponsor, Hoots Roller Bar & Beer Company!

It was a great, fun night, complete with designated drivers and Beer Dad Tim carried around a portable recorder to capture some of the fun. What we did this week was compile a few of the highlights (or lowlights, possibly) and play them for you. We’re just giving you an idea of the fun we have together. There’s no official beer of the week but there was plenty of beer drunk that evening. So, enjoy listening to our drunken debauchery.

The show was partially recorded in the new Test Pattern Studios. Test Pattern is located at 701 N Trade Street in good ol’ WSNC. Check out the Test Pattern page for more on their happenings.

Show 95: Driving Jon Crazy

Last week, Beer Dad Paul had to vent about things that had gotten under his skin. We’re equal opportunity offenders or offendeds over here so, why not let Beer Dad Jon have a turn? Whether it’s drivers, parkers, or just people in general, we’re not immune to the stupidity or ignorance of others, right? Well, sometimes we just have to voice our concerns about McDouches or other annoyances of every day people. Take it away BDJon.

The show was recorded in the new Test Pattern Studios. Test Pattern is located at 701 N Trade Street in good ol’ WSNC. Check out the Test Pattern page for more on their happenings.

Show 94: Ticked Off Paul

So, we had an election recently. Many people were happy, many were not.

Not actually Beer Dad Paul

Whatever side you’re on, almost everyone has had to have conversations, mostly uncomfortable, with family, friends or acquaintances about politics, views and preferences. Neither side is fully right and neither is fully wrong; at least in principle. Where we are wrong is not respecting others’ views on the same subject. Sure, we can disagree but be mindful of others’ feelings and views. Similarly, no matter on which side of the spectrum you sit, you must realize that blaring your opinions isn’t likely to change anyone’s mind about the subject or point of view. It may, perhaps, change their opinion of you. Don’t lose friends or the closeness of relatives because you can’t agree. What does it matter in the grand scheme of things anyway?

This episode, Beer Dad Paul is fed up with all sides of aisle and gets a bit explosive. He doesn’t completely blow up but he’s not happy and he lets us all know about it and why. Luckily, we have beer to help ease the tension.

The show was recorded in the new Test Pattern Studios. Test Pattern is located at 701 N Trade Street in good ol’ WSNC. Check out the Test Pattern page for more on their happenings.

Show 93: Sh!t. Fan. Fan. Sh!t.

What do you do when you’ve taken all you can away from your child and they still don’t/won’t do what you tell them to do? How about when they don’t do their schoolwork; even resorting to sitting in class and refusing to participate or even take tests? Not even putting their name on the test? And it goes beyond that. Big discussion this episode.

Show 92: Uninvited Consequences

(Copyright assumed by owner)

How do you handle things you can’t solve with a shot? What kind of shot? You take your pick. How do you handle when your kids are injured or when their hearts are broken? Parenting sucks, but it’s also rewarding. What did you put your parents through growing up? The Dads discuss this very thing.
